A boisterous and witty story of loyalty, disillusion and betrayal. Out of Joint were recently at the Theatre Royal with Andersen’s English and Dreams of Violence. Richard Bean’s plays include the award-winning Harvest (Royal Court) and the Olivier Nominated England People Very Nice (National Theatre).

This is their first collaboration with the Lyric Hammersmith.

CHARLES THE FIRST

a historical tragedy in five acts by Mary Russell Mitford

first performed at the Royal Victoria Theatre on 2 July 1834

Written at a moment of political unrest and unpopular monarchy, Mitford’s dramatisation of the imprisonment and trial of Charles I was quickly suppressed by authorities who felt that ‘it amounted to everything but cutting off the King’s head upon the stage’. Only nine years later was it finally performed – and even then at a theatre outside the Lord Chamberlain’s jurisdiction.

Under the dynamic direction of Ian McMillan (conductor of Carl Rosa Opera), join six Soloists from the legendary D’Oyly Carte Opera Company in a colourful performance as you, the audience, rehearse from your seats and then take on the roles of Pirates, Policemen and Major General Stanley’s Daughters in an unforgettable evening.

Ticket price includes an edited souvenir score/programme.

Carry on the pirate fun after the performance, eat, drink and be merry at a sparkling reception with the soloists in the Greene Room. Tickets £12.50 must be booked in advance.

An elegant afternoon of music from the scores of popular operettas. Starring Rosemary Ashe (international opera singer and the original Carlotta in the Phantom of the Opera) with principal singers from English National Opera and Bury based Kirbye Voices. Directed from the piano by opera conductor Ian McMillan.

The Prometheus Orchestra was founded in 2008 by Edmond Fivet and associates with musicians who live mainly in East Anglia. Performing Rossini’s The Italian Girl in Algiers Overture, the Mozart Clarinet Concerto, the Siegfried Idyll from Wagner and Beethoven’s Symphony No 8.
